About Grandmaster Yong Woo Kim

Grandmaster Yong Woo Kim
Eighth Dan Black Belt
Grandmaster Kim was born and raised in Korea, and moved to the United States in 1979. He began studying Taekwondo at the age of 13, and progressing quickly, earned his fourth Dan Black Belt while serving as a Taekwondo instructor in the Korean army.

Once in the USA, he competed for several years in full-contact tournaments sponsored by the Professional Karate Association, and garnered many victories, usually knocking out his opponent in the first round. He became the Colorado State Welterweight Champion in 1981.

In 1980, he opened his first Taekwondo school in partnership, and in 1984, moved to Utah and launched the first dojang of his very own school, "Kim's Academy".

Grandmaster Kim is an eighth Dan Black Belt, and has won numerous awards and tournaments. He is currently the state of Utah Taekwondo President. Even with his impressive track record, he says he receives the most satisfaction from seeing his own students progress and achieve, and go on to win awards of their own.
